The Story
 
The year is 1939 and the threat of war in Europe is growing. Meanwhile, back home in the land of apple pie and ice cream, a different war is already being fought - a war for the very survival of the human race.
 
Dark beings from beyond the walls of reality peer into our realm with envious, malevolent eyes. These monstrous entities are vast and ancient, their natures so alien to humanity that to know of them is to risk one’s sanity.
 
But you are one of the few who take that risk, an investigator for the Midsummer Institute, a private collection of individuals who risk their lives and their sanity to understand and push back against the creatures from beyond. 
 
On this occasion, you’ve learnt that a cult is trying to summon into our realm a being from beyond – the Entity. This can’t be permitted to happen.
 
Armed with your trusty Police Special and magic paraphernalia, you draw up to the abandoned town house deep in the forest outside of Portland. The rain is beating down, the light is fading, and you are a long way from backup if things go wrong.
 
Sounds about like usual.
 
Time to kick some dimensional butt.

As with many of the games from The Grinning Frog, this is about drawing from a deck of cards to discover what your character has run into. In this instance it might be creatures from beyond the walls or reality, possessed individuals or just plain mad cultists!
 
To deal with them, you have a range of options, as in a first for one of our games, you can choose the equipment that you start the adventure with. Will you go gun and ammo heavy, or rely on magic?
 
All of this is wrapped up in a 1930's theme with a strong tip of the creative hat to Lovecraft.
 
A new mechanic is that in this game, you can work through the villains, so the deck of cards you draw from shrinks, bringing you ever close to your ultimate foe - the entity!
